 Tonight Felt Amazing!!! |
Today was fast but awesome!!!
The day flew by with meetings over the phone and web with all sorts of martial artists that I know. We are building some amazing things coming up in the very near future for our students and community. This is really firing me up!!!
So much that I hit a 2 mile run today and made it in a 7.5 mile pace. IT was amazing!!!
Then our classes were on fire as well.
If you missed it I am truly sorry because everyone was fueling each other.
An amazing experience. Come and see!!!

Our New Black Belt - BOBBY GRANT!!! |
What an amazing weekend it was... if you missed it then you really missed a display of all heart. Bobby rocked the house with an awesome demo and some really good fitness rounds. He made it look super easy because his conditioning was through the roof. He also did great on saturday surfing through all of the Kali material for his test. To top that off, sunday was all about the heart and fire that is in Bobby. Be sure to congratulate him when you see him as well as try to take a class with him. He is an awesome teacher and team member. Congrats Bob on a great achievement!!! Guro Larry

Halloween Candy that makes a Difference!!! |
Hello Students,
I just wanted to let you know we are doing something really cool that I think makes a big difference.
We have been placing Halloween Candy on a Card that displays 10 Safety Tips for Halloween. This has been something we have done for the last few years and I really think is a great way to give back to our community.
You have several ways that you can help us make this the best Halloween yet.
Option #1 - if you are handing out Candy or have Candy out at work just let us know. We can give you some of our Candy with the Cards attached or if you were thinking of getting Candy to hand out then just let us know how much you think you will need. We'll go buy the Candy for you and set it up with the Cards for you!!! This is a very cool option because you save money on the Candy and you get to make a difference in your community :)
Option #2 - if you are not handing out Candy, there is a large possibility that you know someone that is. Someone in your network of Friends, Co-Workers, Family, etc. will probably be handing out some Candy so just let them know what we are doing and that we will help them by either giving them extra Candy or setting them up with Candy completely.
Option #3 - You could do both :)
Just let us know ASAP because we may have to get more Cards than we have if everyone comes together quickly on this.
The cut off date for this will be Wednesday Morning this week so that if we need to order more Cards we can. This will also give us enough time to get all the Candy and Cards assembled and ready for anyone who is interested.
Lets go make a difference in the community and world we live in.
Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!!!

WEST TX is just always the BEST!!! |
|
Another great trip to West Tx this past weekend!!! Jesse, Sonja and I had a blast. I'm sad that many of you haven't had a chance to experience it. Hiking, camping, diving, swimming, grilling, chilling and star gazing are just a few things that are available on the trip. It is truly a small slice of heaven to enjoy. I hope you can join me in April when I go again :) Guro Larry

 RIP Trouble!!! |
Well yesterday was a tough day... I woke early to come to the school and get a jump on the day. While getting dressed our dog of roughly 14 years who was in great health just stopped breathing. I started CPR and tried to get a pulse back but could not. I've saved quite a few lives directly and indirectly through my life so far and I've never had anyone go in front of me nor while I was trying to save them. It was truly a hard thing to experience. It turns out she had an anyerism and there was really nothing we could do. Just out of the blue though... it is soooo strange. For all of those that have been jumped on by her or licked by her... Please give her your thoughts. You know she is up there on a cloud giving her big brother Rex hell for a few weeks lol. RIP Troubs!!!! Guro Larry

 WEST TX was AWEsome!!! |
All I have to say is Stars & Bubbles!!!
You get to see the stars in the most perfect way. No extra light or anyting like that. Then to be in San Soloman Spring to cool off and scuba dive was great as always.
You have to... absolutely have to make the next trip with us.
It is a little slice of heaven!!!

 Kickboxing Seminar ROCKED!!! |
|
This seminar was amazing!!! I couldn't believe how many people first of all showed up to train hard too. Everyone brought their A Game and pushed hard on the material. They also did a great job working on all the material from 4, 5, and 6 Counts. They also built up to the very cool 15B Count. Then we tore it apart and applied it in our new format which blew everyone's mind away!!! Keep up the hard work team and we are looking forward to editing the seminar footage and getting DVDs ready for all of you!!! Guro Larry

Light at the End of the Tunnel!!! |
Well today we took another great journey in our testing structure to watch Hector, Jamie, Jennie and Amy all push hard for the last level on their tests before Black Belt!!! It is amazing to watch what we as humans can do. I have seen the change in these four and Matt over the last few months and it is AWEsome!!!
They are more ready now then you would ever think. They have been growing at such a fast pace it is too amazing.
I believe it is because the end of the tunnel is getting closer and the light is getting brighter.
Instead of at first moving away from the light because you are used to the darkness.. they are now running towards it. Pushing and driving themselves to be the best they can be.
To be the Black Belt that is inside each and every one of us.
Great job on this first chapter of your journey team and I can't wait to see your Black Belt Tests come July 31st.
Cya as a Black Belt then...

Hope is a BIG Four Letter Word!!! |
Well in our everyday life we really do need hope. It comes in all shapes and sizes and the hardest thing to see sometimes is the smallest grain. We literally have to get our magnifying class out and search deep for it.
It is always there except when you THINK it is not.
Sometimes it comes in a disguise or twisted in something said so.... keep your EYES and EARS open and be ready to receive it.
Join the revolution with me and lets see if we can find it together.
Because together we can make a difference in bringing hope to others.
When you help other people find it... you'll probably stumble across yours too :)

 The Longest Week Ever!!! |
What does it mean when the week drags on forever.... I don't either I just thought I would ask to stir up some thoughts in your head.
I wonder with more time, what could we accomplish and do?
Good luck with yours... I'm gonna get back on mine :)

 The Silver Lining |
We have been talking about Appreciation this month in both our Adult and Children's Programs and last week's topic of a Silver Lining really hit home for me.
The concept of Appreciating something or someone more is a big one. Often enough we step on the very flowers that we have with us just to admire the roses on the other side of the fence. So with that in mind I wanted to share with you a concept of Silver Lining or a method of finding the good in everything.
For a while now I have been just upset with our oldest set of mats. Lets face it... they do not resemble anything close to being new. In fact these once red mats are not a very vague shade of pink. They have lost their loving feeling for sure. Or is it that I lost my loving feeling for them?
Well, I have been wanting new mats downstairs for a while because we teach a lot of private lessons on them. We also teach all of our first time introductory students on them. Frankly it was getting so bad I was a little embarrassed by them. But, they definitely were not going to replace themselves and everything we looked at was going to cost an arm and a leg... maybe even two!!!
It wasn't until a few months ago I remember a time (photos on our wall that you can see) that we didn't have mats. We worked out on a few older roll out mats for wrestling but nothing but carpet for striking. Then I remember not having those wrestling mats. I even remembered back to the days of a tennis court with no roof over our heads and us wrestling in the grass and mud as well as the concrete. (I know I know, young is all I have to remind you of)
During this time of reflection I remember driving 24 hours straight to pick up these mats. I remember all the little stops and speed bumps along the way to get the mats. What a great deal we got for them and how much we have used them since.
Once I started appreciating the mats the funniest thing happened. We fell into the greatest deal ever on the mats we were wanting to place downstairs. They were used but in great shape and to top it off they were 60+ percent off the normal price!!!
Yep, you heard me right. What an amazing deal and an amazing chance for us to redesign downstairs. We were so pumped about this and still am :)
Now as I place the mats in the design and I cut boarders... I can't help but think about the old pink mats. I can't help but be sad that we will soon be saying good bye to those mats. The very ones that we made our Academy on. The same ones that many of my instructors and friends have taught on from California to Texas.
The Silver Lining here is that I don't believe we were ready for new mats until we or I should say I remembered just how amazing the old mats were. Just how far they had taken us. Now that is appreciation. Try it out and see what happens!!!
